Research Experience

July 2022 to Aug 2025

Research Assistant

Environmental Sustainability and Economics Analytical Lab, National University of Singapore

During this time, I investigated consumer behaviour and public readiness toward sustainable food innovations in Singapore. I designed and led a discrete choice experiment, applying structural equation and linear mixed modelling to analyse how information, tasting events, and socio-economic barriers influence public acceptance of alternative proteins and novel foods. Expanding into qualitative research, I conducted focus groups to uncover community drivers for insect-based waste upcycling initiatives. Concurrently, as a Coordinator for the Initiatives for Climate, Oceans & Nature (ICON) under NUS Sustainable Futures, I drove cross-faculty and interdisciplinary collaborations and sustainability projects. My research findings were then communicated in articles in peer-reviewed journals, where I contributed as first-author or co-author.

Honours Thesis

Experimental Marine Ecology Lab (EMEL), National University of Singapore

For my honours thesis as an undergraduate, I investigated microplastic distribution gradients between seagrass beds and non-seagrass patches across three coastal zones in Northeastern Singapore. I took ownership of the project from the ground up, planning and executing the sediment fieldwork, optimising microplastic extraction protocols for laboratory use, and performing stereomicroscopic characterisation to visually identify recovered particles. My honours thesis eventually became part of a larger research article published in Marine Environmental Research.

Dec 2020 to April 2021

Undergraduate Researcher (UROPS)

Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore

Driven by an early interest in academic research, I sought out hands-on opportunities ahead of my final year by joining a project assessing ichthyofauna (fish) communities across six locations in Singapore’s Southern Islands. I analysed and compared ecological data from Baited Remote Underwater Video stations (BRUVs), ultimately contributing a new species record for the tailmark wrasse (Leptojulis urostigma) to the Singapore Biodiversity Records.
